I have decided to scrap the 20. I am having a very hard time keeping it stable, so befor I get to deep into it I deceided to up grade.
The new set up is
1. Oceanic tank 13' tall x 18.5" wide x 60" long 3/8" glass
2. Oceanic Model 2 sump
3. CPR over flow with Aqua life pump
4. Mag18 for return and a Mag24 for skimmer
5. Skimmer
Also fave a heater some timers and most of the rest
All I have to do now is build a stand, modify my light set up and do a bunch of plumbing...........:bounce:

So are you still going to go with shrooms? Or have you moved on to something else?

Nathan
I am going to do some shrooms as well as some other stuff.
Joe
I though you might remember it....
Well because of a little rain in the north we were very slow today, so I thought I would
get my stand done. Here it is ( thanks to Steve for the plywood )

Now that your tank is quite a bit longer, what lighting are you going to go with? Still MH?
plomanto
10-15-2005, 08:16 PM
Since I am flowing the water from end to end I think I am going to put a 175W MH over the high flow end and two 24" VHO's on the over flow end...
I just finished the return plumbing so I guess I'll start adding water.....

Tonight I hooked up the skimmer and ran it for a bit along with the return pump to see what the sump level setteled at, every thing looked pretty good so I added salt turned off the skimmer added another pump to stir things up a bit. It looks like after work I can add the sand and then sit and wait for it to cycle. That will give me some time to come up with a lighting set up...
Looking good Peter. I'll have a bunch of softies to get rid of at the end of November. Most of them will not see the inside of my 180.

Peter, if you go BB, shrooms and zoas will grow right on the glass. You can then scrape them off and glue them to the rubble. Just a thought.

After three days the sand storm finally cleared, I don't think it would have taken this long but right after I put the sand in I hit the wrong switch (turned pump and skimmer on) and walked out of the room for about 30 minutes..:banghead:

Today I finished the lights and canopy...I think I need to go with longer VHO's the far right side is a little to dark

It is a bit dark. You could always go with different lighting to see if the softies or shrooms will do better under different lighting. Be a bit of an experiment.

The out grow tank has cycled...I have a few snails and 1 hermit
I put a two Kenia tree frags in and 2 pink paly's...
There is also 2 temp residents in there...
looking good, may also help with the light if you take the glass lids off, unless you don't want an open top.

Mike
I have taken off the glass tops. What I need to do is get some 36" VHO's instead of the 24" to cover the part the MH dosnt

You could jut throw another Halide on the dim side, cost permitting of course...

so do you use halides with it Or VHO's ?
Im thinking about going to portland and getting some material ..
i like the longs but here (Oregon) there rare to find and great for the reef .. unless i have seahorses then you need a tall tank ..
anyway i want to build a frag tank for myself Maybe not that big but also build with it an acrilic BBS hatcher that holds 2-4 Bottles
16 oz that way i could hatch morning and night and have them ready when needed .. Im pretty much a tom boy and love to build things but electric scares me ..
the fencing for the ranch was ok but never had to build live wire with electric hooked up .. when my brothers where young was easy to test it .. Just bet them they couldnt pee on the highest wire ..Smerks ......thank god im not Catholic id be turned away fast huh ?? Tammy

After our trip to LA yesterday I finally have another 175W MH for my prop tank. Its hard to tell till they burn in but its a 10K bulb on the Left side and a 14K on the right. I took the 24" VHO's and mounted them in a hood for the fuge..Ilso in the fuge are two cleaner shrimp and two fire shrimp that I am holding for Steve.

Oops also forgot to mention. As always I have to keep the better half happy when it comes to my tanks so we are proudly now housing a Blue Throat Trigger in the prop tank

01-14-2006, 07:39 PM
Nice, are you putting that Blue Throat in the reef tank?
