2004.10.13 16:35 Ghetto ID card is made!! you WILL need this to participate as a CVR member at the Dixon fragswap!!

ok all, i've made the ghetto id card! i'm working remotely on a laptop through sprint which dummies down pictures to save on bandwith. intereting concept btw...

at any rate, i hope this prints ok! :)

i've gone through and activated a bunch of members who have been active on the forums. if i've overlooked you, just message me and i'll enable you! :)

i'll check this again friday night. being out of town, i'm not sure if i can check it on sat. morning... so please get back to me by friday night, say 10pm PST.

to check if you have been enabled and/or print your temporary card, visit:

http://www.cvreefers.org/CVR_ID.php

thanks!

2004.10.08 17:47 NOTE: you will need an 'ID' card to attend on CVR's behalf! Over the next couple of days, I'll be working on a quicky password protected image accesible to members only (read: ghetto ID card) that you will need in order to get a ticket at the frag swap. you'll need this ticket to participate! (they hand out numbered tickets and that's the order you get to choose your frag in, at least that's how it was done last time.) sounds like there was some abuse at the last one (CVR was represented quite nicely i might add, we came with a lot!) and to preven this, ID cards will be required. as CVR doesn't have an official ID card (yet), we'll be making a temporary one. it's a MEGA fun event, and i highly encourage any CVR member to attend! don't read into this as a turnoff, it's just their way of trying to make it fair and fun for all. more coming soon! :)

Hello All!

We have been invited to the Dixon Frag swap put on by MARS (BAR has been invited as well). Myself and others attended last years and it was a BLAST!!

Here's the details from budgetyourself on RC:

The coral swap that was originally planned for Sept. 18 has been changed to Sat. Oct. 16 at Pam's house in Dixon. The change is coinciding with Anthony Calfo's talk at the regular meeting on Fri. Oct. 15- he has agreed to stay for the swap on Sat. and help with a fragging workshop.
Everyone keep Oct. 16 open and start growing out your corals so we have allot of frags available. Both BAR and the Central Valley Reefers are invited. Details will follow. Pam

more details can be found on the RC thread:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=426504&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

myself, i will not be able to attend :( as it turns out, i'll be in perfect-weather san diego that week on business and driving back on saturday.

if you'd like to go, post here, i'm sure some people can hook up on rides![/quote]

Too bad this isn't AFTER I do a little fish sitting. Hey man, do you want to trade for some really colorful zoos or cool fish?

I'd love to go, but don't really have much to offer. I could frag some nice pulsing xenia and green star polyps, but it sounds like those are nobody's favorites. I coul d bring some 10 gal tanks for setting stuff up. How does it work if I don't have much? Can I purchase frags, or write IOU's or somehting?

Where do I get directions and other info. Should I contact Pam from reef central?

whodah
10-08-2004, 02:23 PM
chem1586, the xenia and gsp were swooped up when we went last! you could totally bring those. the 10G tanks would be appreciated too last i checked on RC. and you got it! hitup Pam for directions.

last time eddie was there from tropical paradise w/ purchasable frags. i dunno if he'll be there this time or not. i know dr. lee is from aquatic gallery w/ donated frags though.

cya!

On the RC forum, they mentioned verification of club membership. Do we have somthing like this? Does CV Reefers count as club membership, and if so, am I a member?

whodah
10-08-2004, 03:54 PM
when you get there, you won't have a cvr id card to present as we don't have those yet.

however, i've negotiated a secret handshake. go up to pam, offer your right hand in the typical handshake position. just as pam reaches for it, pull it back and brush it against your hair as if you were fixing it and yell at the top of your lungs: "SCREAMING MUNKEH, SCREAMING MUNKEH!!"

as the handshake goes, Pam will respond w/ a shocked look just kind of staring at you and flinch back just a little. this is normal and the expected response. if Pam does this, you can continue on. if Pam doesn't, then it's an imposter and immediatly report said imposter.

presuming you do get the correct response, carry on by kicking your left heal up into the air, touch it w/ your right hand. it'll help if you bring a cowboy hat. while doing this, state in a country voice: "i'm a country reefer and i'm here to say, i wanna trade some corals in a nifty way!".

similar to the first 1/2 of the handshake, Pam's response should be another shocked look, and taking a step back away from you - not unlike that of a scared kitten. Pam should then call out for the larger, more-muscular attendees (read saltybob and bigred) of the frag swap for 'assistance'. if Pam does this, you are in good shape and in! if not, just tell them you are tacocat and -=mingle=-...

:D

lemme get in touch w/ them, i bet i can have u guys printup a 'temp card' of some kind to prove CVR membership.

whodah
10-08-2004, 05:52 PM
ok, so the country dance handshake isn't gonna work... :lol2: here's the latest, reposted at the top:

We (MARS) will also be handing out "Hello my name is" stickers for everyone to write their given name, club name and any BBS handles you might have. It's kind of fun seeing a face to go with the avtar.

chem1586, naw, not gonna go that extensive this time around. my sprint pcs internet is acting up here... great... i can only do things on 'normal' http ports. gonna make it difficult to make the id card from the hotel here!

i'll figure it out here in the next couple days...

I just got an email from Dr. Le (flyer not PC) from Aquatic Gallery. He will be donating a bunch of SPS and LPS frags. As stated before, I wil try my bestest to go, but I may have to work.

So who's going?

chem1586
10-13-2004, 07:45 PM
I'm going to go. Might not get there until 12. I think the fragging demo is at 11 though, so I'm going to try for that, but it's north of San Fran, so I think it might take over 3.5 hours. Anyone have an expected travel time?

Bigred
10-13-2004, 07:51 PM
Just take I5 up. I also can't get the card to print

chem1586
10-13-2004, 08:34 PM
Yeah, it took me a try or two. I think I had to end up copying the entire page, instead of just the image. Try right clicking on the image and clicking "save page as" . That ended up working for me.

whodah
10-13-2004, 09:13 PM
heya, thx for the kind words!

if you have problems printing, it's probably because i'm creating an image 'on the fly'. a dynamic image. it's not a typical image w/ selectable text on top. (if anyone wants a more technical explanation, lemme know! it can get pretty geeky :P )

at any rate: your best bet might be to right click the image and choose 'save as'. save it in 'my document's or whatever, then double click it and print it from whatever application see's it by default.

but now that i think on it, i can see why you might have problems printing it from a web browser.

hey firebird users: can you print it ok straight from the browser? you'll be able to create the image ok because it is all server side. but i'm curious if it prints well from the browser?

whodah
10-13-2004, 09:25 PM
unfortunatly i'm seeing some... questionable... activity on the site lately.

having said that: for the newest members: this isn't our frag swap, this is for MARS and CVR has been invited as their guests. as such, i'll need a longer-term member to 'vouche' for you before enabling your account for an ID card. i don't want to get into the drama as to why, but it is for the sake of preventing future drama.

CVR plans on having it's own frag swaps and this will probably be a catalyst to get them rolling faster! :) but for now, we are guests, this is not our own.

thanks! hope this makes sence!

I attempted to print the ID card and had no problems (no, I am not able to go :( ). I'm using the Firefox (AKA Firebird) browser.

I'm NOT gonna go, but if one of you wants to stop by on thw way through Modesto, I might have some
GSP frags to donate to the CVR general trading fund.

senorpyro
10-13-2004, 10:05 PM
even though i'm not going to be able to make it, i figured i'd try printing it just for funsies and had no problems on firebird 0.9.3

and if you're bored, as far as an uber description of the image funkiness goes i'm always entertained by in depth geek talk... but i can find plenty of geek talk other places too if you don't feel like it :)

Still can't get it to print. Saved as, print item, page, still nothing so I took a picture with my camera and printed it that way. HA HA. LOL

So I'm sitting in a hotel in Dixon all week this week. I'm working out of town. Dixon seems to be quite the butthole town, there doesn't seem to be anything here except open land and distribution warehouses.

I haven't seen my wife all week, so I'm not gonna make the swap. Oh the irony, and the pain it causes me.

Someone better take notes and photos and all that good stuff.

chem1586
10-14-2004, 02:12 AM
I'll try to remember to take photos, I'll probably have to keep pausing though ... to wipe all the drool off my mouth. Are Bigred and I really the only ones going? You know it is going to take some time before all the cool new frags I get are big enought that I can share them with you guys. I guess we'll need to have a swap in town, so we can all be there. I really look forward to Sat. I've never been to a frag swap before.

whodah
10-14-2004, 09:13 AM
Bigred, lol, nice workaround!

senorpyro, sure, np! when i get back i'll put a thread up on the site update forum thingy explaining how i did it in more detail and post the source code too :) it's actually relatively easy once u know how and is only a few lines of code. now figuring THAT out took some time :P

chem1586, it's a blast, you'll love it! yes, we do need one locally! i wonder if eddie or dr. lee or calfo would pay us a visit too? :D

10-15-2004, 06:41 AM

Oh and can I be added as an advaced member??
