    alge problem-help please

I dont know where it came from but I have never had hair algae, then in the last month or so every tank (4) all got hair alge in them, my sps tank was the worst.
So I took all the rocks out and scrubbed the algae off, a little has come back (hardly noticeable), but, I have this brown stringy algae that is springing up every were I can blow it off with a baster and it jsut get caught on the next coral, I spent a couple hours today taking my corals out and cleaning every one, and a few hours later its back. I would just shut the tan k down if it didnt have my nicest corals in it.

    any ideas????

    thanks jeremy

Have you checked your source water with multiple testers? I.e. if your RO/DI water is no longer clean?

This would make the third time this has come up for me today with various discussions. Fairly common scenario!

I can bring a test meter to the swap tomorrow if you are going to test a sample of your water?

    That.

Also enter your tank in this contest and possibly win a CuC.

Come to think of it, I just read an article on this too. This may or may not be your issue of course, but it'd be my first suspect based on the data presented.

    Here's the article:

    Water quality

Great article! My tan cap did the same thing just the other day in a spot about the size of a dime all in a matter of a few minutes as I litteraly watched helplessly... Then that was it and the rest of it seems fine. My tds also reads 0ppm and the filters shouldn't be due for a change for a few months. I will have some water with me also if you wouldn't mind testing it at the swap just to make sure this isn't the issue. The spot is a spot where detritus would occasionally settle so I had attributed it to that but maybe it's the Modesto water!!!
