Odd. At first, i was thinking cabbage coral, but I'm not so sure any more. I'm starting to lean toward some sort of LPS, and an extremely pissed off one, at that. It looks like its spilling guts all down the rock. Or... maybe it's a softy and that's where it was torn in two. It's hard to say. Let's see another picture in a couple days.

It's definitely not an SPS, though. We can rule that out, without hesitation.

I saw all the mouths, as well. Between those and the tentacles all over the base, I started leaning toward LPS. To be very straight forward, I'd be pretty concerned about its survival right now. Unless, again.. those are tear marks and it's still a softy.

Does it change appearance at night, at all? Put out sweepers? Change colors under actinics only?

I'm with Jason on this one, weird piece, but cool. I was thinking a mushroom, but with all the mouthes, more than likely an LPS. What did it look like at the LFS? When you put it in the tank, did it have an exoskelteton under the flesh? Perhaps a very disgruntley Elegance...

I've seen Elegance corals take on that pattern when they are extremely distressed...if that is what you have - move it into a dimly lit, medium flow area and be patient. Elegance are slow recovery corals, but they usually will come around.

Does it have multiple mouths (looks like it form the pic)? If so, that would be strange on an Elegance of that size.

Its hard to tell from the pic, but could it be several small mushrooms, is the center one solid peice or do the tenticals go all the way around each mouth?
did you get it on that rock or did you attach it, one base??

Hydnophoras being an SPS, dont have mouthes. This piece has multiple mouthes. Plus, SPS dont have the intestines that can be spued out like LPS or musrhooms.

I can see why they would say hydno because of the frilly tentilce on the edges, but there is no way that is a hydno. Where did you get it from?

Ask them, they should know from the invoice (although some things are no invoiced, and other are often misidentified). Also, they have touched the coral and should know more about it. That sounds goofy, but having worked in a LFS, its an important part of knowing what you are selling. The piece at Neptune very well may be a Hydno, but the piece you have, is not.

3rd row down far right. If you look through the google images there are several pics of both a stag looking branch type coral and a softie looking elegance like coral all reffered to as hydnophora...

If you click on that photo, and search the page, you will find that it doesn't look anything like what you have.

My point was that what you have is NOT a Hydnophora. Yours looks more like a Leather or LPS.

I also say not hydno and I have a rather large colony in my tank. Hydno has no internal organs to spew when angry. If it has adjusted to your tank and is no longer stressed a better picture would help in getting a acurate ID. It kinda resembles a very sick Elegance coral.
