Kind of jacking up the carpet in my fishroom with salt. Wondering if anyone has laminate flooring in their tank room and if they like it. I have it in the kitchen and its held up pretty well.
Thanks

You might try the epoxy paint flooring. Weatherson has this and it looks great.
Always looking for a tight clam!!
When I get my new fish room I'll be doing the epoxy paint like Joe but my decorative chips will be more even.![]()
I was going for more of the abstract look.I'd definitely recommend the epoxy flooring. It's water proof and durable as all heck.

I thought about doing checker sticky back tiles but worried about getting mold under them.
I have pergo wood, and it doesnt seem to be affected by salt.
Thanks, Bryan

Thanks all,
BDimas, is that the wood flooring that snaps together or the kind that glues to the floor. If it snaps or glues to gether be very carefull on how much water gets spilled, it will not effect the wood on top but if it start seaping in between the seams that area of the planks are not lamenated and it can cause damage. I have installed many of that flooring, it is good flooring and looks nice but it need to stay dry.
As for the apoxy flooring like Joe has. I know 2 guys with that down on the garage, and we beat it will hammers, drop tools and weld and torch on it. SO i am prety sure it is planty strong enough for a fish room and very easy to clean.
Thanks Donkeykong. I'll try to keep spillage to a minimum.
Thanks, Bryan

If you get water into that floor, it can cause the wood fibers to swell and buckle the flooring. Once that happens, you're basically screwed, as the only real option will be to replace it all.
Hey, seems like there is SOMEONE on this site who should be good at replacing flooded flooring...now if I could ONLY remember who that was...........
I also have laminate flooring in my living room where my tank is. When I am working on my tank I always lay towels around it to absorb any spilling- and I have a rug right in front of my tank as well. I know I would be screwed if my tank overflowed but the laminate flooring we put in was from Costco at only like $2 per sq ft- we could replace it. I know it isn't reccommended for 'wet' areas such as laundry rooms, bathrooms, etc. but I think it will work fine.
The stuff from costco is pretty durable to abuse but its weakness is moister. BUt you are right as long as you didnt use the kind that glues together, you can easly replace sections of the snap together stuff. I have put in about 10 of these floors, mostly just one or two rooms but I actually did an entire 3 bedroom hous minus the bathrooms and kitchen. So I know what it takes to put it in and how durable they are
yeah- ours is the snap together stuff with the roll out white foam or padding stuff- our whole house will be that minus the bedrooms and bathrooms. Hopefully it works out- Adam got our entire living room and hall done in one daycan you only replace sections? if that is the case that will be very nice if anything happens.
My whole house is laminate flooring, except for bedrooms and bathroom. I always have towels handy when im doing work in my tanks. I think I'll start laying towels down too for extra protection.
Thanks, Bryan

Currently using cement for 'flooring' of 'fish room' and has the distinct advantage of not warping each time I make a huge mess during water change, adding/removing corals or anything else tank related. I think Weatherson has a trick system involving a central drain in the middle of his fish room, etc.
Scott
Nope, the only central drain I have in my room is a beach towel.Ted (Twize) in Folsom installed one in his fish room and used the same epoxy paint as I did. I do have enamel painted base boards which I silicone sealed to the painted floor and wall to contain any spills.
I had considered installing a drain but the room is too close to the perimeter of the foundation for my comfort. Add a ton worth of tank pressing down just feet away from any holes placed in this slab and you have a recipe for half of my home falling over.![]()
The costco stuff is what I have in my kitchen too. I already had to replace some of it when the ice-maker line decided to start leaking. The good part is its easy to do. I was more worried about the saltwater discoloring the floor then flooding it.
Ive got this plot in the back of my mind where I get the floor done up to my tank and then tell my wife I cant figure out how to move it. Then try to convince her I should just get a bigger tank and put it on the part of the room thats already done.
I like how you thing Tusk.
